Dr. Sanghapi is from Cameroon where he completed earned his bachelor degree in Physics and computer Science from the University of Buea. He won a scholarship to pursue his graduate studies at the 密西西比州立大学 where he completed his Master’s in Physics and his Ph.D. in Engineering with a concentration Applied Physics under the supervision of Dr Jagdish Singh at the Institute of Clean Energy Technology ICET, 密西西比州立大学. After his Master’s he won the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education postgraduate fellowship to continue his doctoral research at the National Energy Technology Laboratory, 匹兹堡. While there, he worked on optical detection of carbon dioxide in post carbon 封存. 毕业后, he joined the Department of Chemistry and Physics as Assistant Professor of Physics where he is pioneering the Laser Spectroscopy and Material Characterization Research Group.
We are interested in the applications of laser spectroscopy for material characterization in order to address environmental, 与健康有关的问题. Our main focus are but not limited to the following applications:
- Environmental Applications (soil contamination, water quality etc.)
- Biomedical Applications (biological tissues mapping, detection of nano particle and trace metals biological tissues)
- Military and Safety Applications ( detection of explosive particle, aerosols chemical and biological agents etc)
- Nuclear Waste (detection of radioactive isotopes)
- Material Analysis (metals, plastics, pharmaceutical etc.)

Our summer research program is designed to train future leaders in STEM with emphasis on laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and its applications. Program will welcome students from diverse disciplines (chemistry, 生物学, environmental and agricultural science). The following are our objectives:
- Early exposure of students to research.
- Provide opportunities for underrepresented and minority students.
- Promote multidisciplinary research.
- Enhance student-faculty and student-student interactions.
